What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets a site remember something between page loads — that you're logged in, that you dismissed a banner, that you clicked a particular link.
Cookies can't run programs, carry viruses, or read files off your computer. They can be used to build a picture of your browsing across sites, which is the part people reasonably object to.
Cookies we set
None. This is a static site with no accounts and no server-side sessions. We have nothing to remember about you.

Manage these at Google Ads Settings. Turning off personalisation doesn't remove ads, it just makes them generic.
Affiliate tracking
When you click a "check price" button, the retailer sets a cookie so it can credit us if you buy within its tracking window — typically 24 hours for Amazon, longer for the brand programs.

These cookies belong to the retailer, not to us. We never see your order details — only an anonymous sale count.
Your choice on this site
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. Until you press Accept, nothing on this page loads — no Google Analytics, no AdSense, and not even a preconnect to Google's servers.
Press Reject and the site works exactly the same. You lose nothing. We just learn less about which articles are worth writing.
Changed your mind? There's a Cookie settings link in the footer of every page that reopens the banner. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, which is how it should be.
How to control cookies
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking all third-party cookies will stop essentially all tracking described here, and this site will keep working perfectly.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Prevent cross-site tracking (on by default)
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Enhanced Tracking Protection
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
You can also enable Global Privacy Control, which we honour as a valid opt-out signal under the CPRA.
Do Not Track
There is still no industry agreement on what a browser Do Not Track header should mean, so we don't claim to respond to it. We do honour Global Privacy Control, which is the signal that actually has legal force.
