Can a Power Station Run a Window AC Unit?
Yes, for a few hours, and only on a big unit. Here is the honest math, the surge that trips most batteries, and what to do instead.

What's in this article
It's ninety-four degrees, the power has been out for six hours, and somebody suggests plugging the window unit into the battery.
You can. It'll work. And then you'll watch the percentage drop faster than you thought possible.
Here's the honest math, because most articles on this dodge it.
Two numbers, and the second one is the problem
Running draw. A 5,000 BTU window unit pulls around 500 watts while the compressor is going, cycling maybe 70% of the time in real heat. An 8,000 BTU unit, around 750 watts. verify
Startup surge. That's where it goes wrong. The 5,000 BTU unit spikes near 1,500W; the 8,000 BTU unit near 2,200W, for well under a second. verify
If your inverter can't supply that instant, it trips and shuts off. Full battery, doesn't matter.

That's the whole argument. A fan runs for the better part of a day on a battery that gives you two hours of air conditioning.
What you'd actually need for a night
Say you want the 5,000 BTU unit running eight hours overnight.
500W × 0.7 duty cycle × 8 hours = 2,800Wh of actual use. Add the usual 30% headroom and you're shopping for something near 3,600Wh.
That's a DELTA Pro 3 class system, and you'd be using nearly all of it on one appliance.
For an 8,000 BTU unit, add roughly half again on top.
This is the most expensive thing you can try to back up short of an electric range, and it's why almost nobody actually does it.
The two things that genuinely help
Buy an inverter AC
Inverter-driven air conditioners ramp the compressor up smoothly instead of slamming it on. The startup surge is far smaller and the running draw scales with how much cooling you actually need.
If you're buying a window unit anyway and battery backup is on your mind, buy an inverter model. It changes the math more than any battery upgrade would.
Fit a soft starter
A soft start device smooths the startup spike on a conventional compressor so a smaller inverter can cope.
RV owners use them constantly for rooftop air conditioners. They work on some window units too. It's an install job and it costs money, but it's often cheaper than buying the next size up of battery.
What we'd actually do
Fans, and a strategy.
One room. Curtains closed on the sun side. Two box fans moving air. That's around 150 watts total, which a 1,000Wh unit carries for most of a night.
A damp towel in front of a fan does more than the wattage suggests — evaporation is free cooling and your battery doesn't pay for it.
For sleeping, moving air across skin makes a bigger difference to how hot you feel than lowering the room temperature by a couple of degrees does.
What we would not buy
A 1,000Wh unit bought specifically to run an AC. It's marginal on the surge and it dies in about ninety minutes. You'd have spent the money and solved nothing.
A big battery with a small inverter. Check the surge rating first, every time. Capacity is the second question.
A "portable AC" (the floor-standing kind with a hose). They're less efficient than window units for the same cooling, which means more watts for the same result. Worst of both worlds on battery.
Straight answer
Short bursts, yes. Cool the bedroom down for an hour before sleeping, then switch to a fan. That's a genuinely good use of a 2,000Wh battery.
All night, no — not without spending several thousand dollars on a system that does almost nothing else.
Buy the fan. Save the difference. And if the heat is a health issue rather than a comfort one, make a plan that doesn't involve a battery at all.

Anyone who needs to power a well pump, an electric water heater or a central AC. It will not start them, and it is not a whole-home unit.
